EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's
and women's track and field teams competed in the Spartan
Invitational today (Apr. 3).
On the women's side, earning a first place finish in the
400-meter hurdles for the Cardinals was sophomore Sarah
Kawiecki (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) timing in at
1:07.87. Coming in behind Kawiecki was sophomore Samantha Roberts (Bullock Creek, Mich./Bullock Creek
HS) who crossed the line at 1:09.70. Roberts would also place
fourth in the 100-meter hurdles clocking in at 16.00 seconds.
Earning a third place finish was the 4x100-meter relay team
consisting of Kawiecki, Elizabeth Willford (Gladwin, Mich./Gladwin HS), Stacey Westphal (Corunna, Mich./Corunna HS), and Tasha
Balls (Bridgeport, Mich./Buena Vista HS) timing in at
50.59. Also earning a top finish was sophomore JoAnne
Carter (Goodrich, Mich./Goodrich HS) who placed fifth overall
in the hammer throw with a distance of 44.43meters.
On the men's side, earning a first place finish in the 800-meter
run for the Cardinals was senior Tony
Filipek (Caro, Mich./Kingston HS) who crossed the line at
1:50.48. Following close behind Filipek was senior Charlie Richards (Goodrich, Mich./Goodrich HS) who
clocked in at 1:51.95. Also earning a top finish was freshman
Tyler Noble (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd HS) who placed
fifth in the 5,000-meter run timing in at 15:26.46. Placing
third overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase was sophomore Jon
Wetters (Essexville, Mich./Garber HS) clocking in at
9:48.80.
The Cardinals will be back in action again on Saturday (Apr. 10)
when they travel to Big Rapids to compete at Ferris State
University.
