UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team was victorious today (Oct. 9), defeating Lake Superior State University 6-3 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) match.

The Cardinals went 2-1 in doubles play as the duo of Yunjiao Shangguan (Chengdu, China/Shiyang HS) and Andrea Calhoun (Midland, Mich.) defeated LSSU's Adrienne Divito and Katie Walehorn 8-6 in no. 1 doubles.  The team of Stephanie Bagnell (Brookside, Nova-Scotia/Cobequid Educational Center) and Hailey Crampton (Vernan, British Columbia/WL Seaton) were victorious over their Laker opponents Erin Wiethoff and Helen Sheriden in no. 2 doubles, 8-3.

Saginaw Valley took four singles matches from the Lakers as Shangguan defeated Divito in three sets, 2-6, 7-5 and 6-2 in no. 1 singles while Calhoun was successful in no. 2 singles, winning 6-2, 6-0.  Cortney Heileman (East China, Mich./St Clair HS) was victorious over Sheriden in no. 4 singles, winning with scores of 6-2, 6-2 while Crampton defeated her Laker opponent 6-3, 6-3 in no. 5 singles.

With the win, the Cardinals move to 3-6 overall on the season and 3-6 in GLIAC play while LSSU fals to 5-7 overall on the season and 3-7 in the GLIAC.  Saginaw Valley will return to action tomorrow (Oct. 10) as they host GLIAC foe Findlay University at noon.
