UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley
State University women's tennis team fell to Michigan Tech
University today (Oct. 8), 6-3 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletics Conference (GLIAC) match.
Sophomore Yunjiao
Shangguan (Chengdu, China/Shiyang HS) defeated Michigan Tech's
Ploy Suthijindawong 7-5, 7-6 in no. 1 singles while freshman Charlotte
Wong (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island/Colonel Gray Senior
High) was successful in no. 6 singles, defeating Kira Eck 6-0,
6-1.
The Cardinals went 1-2 in doubles as the team of Shangguan and
freshman Andrea Calhoun
(Midland, Mich.) picked up a victory, defeating Michigan Tech's
Nathalia Rondelli and Suthijindawong 8-5.
With the loss, Saginaw Valley falls to 2-6 overall on the season
and 2-6 in GLIAC play while Michigan Tech moves to 5-4 overall on
the season and 5-4 in the GLIAC. The Cardinals will return to
action tomorrow (Oct. 9) as they host GLIAC foe Lake Superior State
University beginning at 10 am.
