COLOMBUS, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State
University women's tennis team fell to Ohio Dominican today (Oct.
3), 5-4 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference
(GLIAC) match.
Sophomore Yunjiao
Shangguan (Chengdu, China/Shiyang HS) was successful in no. 1
singles, defeating Sofia Espana-Perez in a three-round match, 6-3,
6-7, 6-3 while freshman Andrea Calhoun
(Midland, Mich.) was victorious in no. 2 singles, defeating her
Panther opponent, 6-1, 6-0.
Freshman Stephanie
Bagnell (Brookside, Nova-Scotia/Cobequid Educational Center)
conquered Ohio Dominican's Nathalia Braga in no. 3 singles, 6-4,
6-1 while freshman Charlotte Wong
(Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island/Colonel Gray Senior HS) was
successful in no. 6 singles, defeating her Panther opponent, Mari
Monaco, 6-4, 6-1.
With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 2-5 overall and 2-5 in
GLIAC action while Ohio Dominican moves to 9-3 overall on the
season and 6-3 in conference play. The SVSU tennis team will
return to action this Friday (Oct. 8) as they host GLIAC foe
Michigan Tech (4-4 overall, 4-4 GLIAC ) at 1:00 pm.
