MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State
University women's tennis team defeated Lake Superior State
University today (Oct. 24) in their third match of the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) Tournament.
The Cardinals swept the Lakers in singles as freshman Andrea
Calhoun (Midland, Mich.) defeated LSSU's Tess Marton in
no. 2 singles 6-1, 6-0 while senior Cortney Heileman
(East China, Mich./St. Clair HS) was successful in no. 4 singles,
defeating Laker Helen Sheridan 6-0, 6-1. Freshman Hailey Crampton
(Vernan, British Columbia/WL Seaton) was victorious in no. 5
singles, defeating LSSU's Erin Wiethoff 6-4, 6-2.
Saginaw Valley went 2-1 in doubles as the team of sophomore Yunjiao
Shangguan (Chengdu, China/Shiyang HS) and Calhoun defeated the
Laker team of Adrienne DiVito and Marton 8-5 while the duo of
freshmen Stephanie
Bagnell (Brookside, Nova-Scotia/Cobequid Educational Center)
and Crampton were victorious over Laker's Holly Daniel and Katie
Watchorn 9-8 (0-5).
With the win, the Cardinals end their 2010 Fall season with an
overall record of 5-9 and 4-7 in the GLIAC while Lake Superior
State University falls to 5-11 overall on the season and 3-8 in
conference play. The SVSU women's tennis team will return to
action for their 2011 Spring season.
