MIDLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's tennis team fell to Northwood University today (Oct. 22) 5-2 in the first match of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) Tournament.

The Cardinals gained their two points from the no. 1 doubles team of freshman Andrea Calhoun (Midland, Mich.) and sophomore Yunjiao Shangguan (Chengdu, China/Shiyang HS) who defeated Northwood's Svenja Stephen and Nikoletta kaposzta 8-2 while senior Cortney Heileman (East China, Mich./St Clair HS) and Charlotte Wong (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island/Colonel Gray Senior High) were victorious over the Timberwolf duo of Ayan Kobayashi and Nicole TenBrink, 8-3 in no. 3 doubles.

With the loss, Saginaw Valley falls to 4-8 overall on the season and 4-8 in the GLIAC while Northwood moves to 11-1 overall on the season and 10-1 in conference action.  The Cardinals will return to action tomorrow (Oct. 23) as they take on Michigan Tech University in day two of the GLIAC Tournament.  Match time is scheduled to begin at 3:45 pm at the Midland Community Tennis Center.
