ASHLAND, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State
University women's tennis team fell to Ashland University today
(Oct. 2), 7-2 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference
match. The loss drops the Cardinals overall record to 2-4 on
the season and 2-4 in the GLIAC while Ashland moves to 8-2 overall
on the season and 7-2 in GLIAC play.
Freshman Andrea Calhoun
(Midland, Mich.) defeated Ashland's Erika Sullivan in no. 2
singles 6-4, 6-1 while senior Cortney Heileman
(East China, Mich./St Clair HS) was successful in no. 4 singles,
defeating Corinne Pasley 6-2, 7-5.
The Cardinals were unsuccessful in doubles-play, however the duo
of sophomore Yunjiao
Shangguan (Chengdu, China/Shiyang HS) and Calhoun put up a
battle, but fell 9-8, 7-3.
The Saginaw Valley tennis team will return to action tomorrow
(Oct. 3) as they travel to take on Ohio Dominican in their third
GLIAC match-up of the weekend. The match is scheduled to
begin at 1:00 pm.
