ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley
State University women's tennis team fell 8-1 today (Oct. 19) to
Grand Valley State University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate
Athletics Conference (GLIAC) match. With the loss, the
Cardinals fall to 4-7 overall on the season and 4-7 in the GLIAC
while the Lakers move to 12-0 overall on the season and 11-0 in
conference play.
Freshman Andrea
Calhoun (Midland, Mich.) was successful in no. 2 singles,
defeating GVSU's Niki Shipman 6-3, 6-4 and put up a good battle in
no. 1 doubles alongside sophomore Yunjiao
Shangguan (Chengdu, China/Shiyang HS), however were defeated by
GVSU's Chelsea Johnston and Darylann Trout, 8-5.
The Cardinals will return to action this weekend (Oct. 22),
taking on GLIAC foe Northwood University in the GLIAC
Championships; match time is to be announced.
