UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University Athletics resumes its 'Student-Athlete Spotlight' feature, which focuses on different Cardinal student-athletes and what it means for them to be a part of the SVSU Athletics family.

The October installment of the 'Student-Athlete Spotlight' series highlights Michael Albrecht, a senior on the SVSU football team and native of Midland, Mich.  

Albrecht came to Saginaw Valley after prepping at Midland High School, where he was a standout member of the Chemic football team and outstanding student.

Michael is currently in his fourth season as a member of the football team. He put together a solid 2012 season in which he posted 42 receptions for 448 yards and four touchdowns, including the game-winner in the Cardinals' 28-24 season-opening victory over the eventual National Champions, Valdosta State.  His performance last year garnered him All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Honorable Mention honors.

Albrecht has certainly held-up the 'student' aspect of the phrase 'student-athlete' as well, compiling a 3.154 GPA as a Business Management major.

Albrecht adds-in on his experiences as a member of the Cardinal Athletics family and the football program:

"Being a student-athlete at the collegiate level, you have to be very organized, responsible and disciplined.  Juggling multiple tasks and schedules requires you to have very good time management skills. 

Knowing that I can do multiple things at once and still focus on what I'm doing at one singular time and move on to the next task is something that this experience has helped me with greatly.  It has helped me in taking-on more of a leadership role as well, and that's going to help me after graduation here in a couple of months.  

It was a great decision coming here!  It's an accredited business school, and I have made a lot of great friends, both on the football team and off.  Friends that I expect I'll have for the rest of my life.  Everything I have learned here through school and being part of SVSU Athletics is very valuable to me and I will use many of my experiences I've had here throughout my life." - Michael Albrecht
