DETROIT — The Saginaw Valley State Women's Basketball team traveled to Wayne State University Thursday (Jan.11) evening. The Warriors went on to defeat the Cardinals 69-43 at the Matthaei Center.

Triple by Jacqmain gives SVSU the first lead of the night with 2:49 left, 8-5. Wayne State responded with an eight point run, with the Cardinals trailing 13-8 after the completion of the first quarter.
Wayne State extended their run to 16 at the start of the second before another Jacqmain bucket stopped the Warriors run and put Saginaw Valley down, 21-10 with 6:41 left to play in the half.
The Warriors took another nine point run and put the Cardinals down by 20 (30-10) at the 4:48 mark. Next 14 points were split right down the middle between SVSU and WSU, heading into the locker room with Saginaw Valley State down 37-17.

From head coach Jamie Pewinski
"We started out well and played pretty tough in the first quarter, but we were not able to keep that intensity in the second quarter. Right now when things start to go wrong, we are having trouble getting them turned back around. The second half effort was better but at that point it was too late. Somehow, we have to find a way to play confident and play together, because when we do, we can be a good team."
The Cardinals will host newly added GLIAC member, Davenport, Saturday (Jan. 13) afternoon. The Panthers are coming off a 63-50 win over Northwood University Thursday evening. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. in O'Neill Arena.
