2017 Saginaw Valley State Preview
The SVSU Men's Soccer team looks to continue the Cardinals' trend of recent success, as the defending GLIAC regular season champions are coming off their fifth NCAA Division II Tournament appearance in the past six seasons. The 2017 team returns a solid core of players in hopes of another stellar season, one that will be two-time reigning GLIAC Coach of the Year Andy Wagstaff's third patrolling the sidelines for SV.
Returning to lead the charge offensively will be Honorable Mention All-American and First Team All-GLIAC performer Matt Wilson, who led the GLIAC in 2016 with 41 points and 11 assists, ranking second as well with six game-winning goals. He will be joined at the forward position by GLIAC Freshman of the Year and Second Team All-GLIAC honoree Roddy Green, who looks to take another leap forward in his sophomore campaign. Anchoring the defense will be sophomore and returning Second Team All-GLIAC member in goalkeeper Connor Keane and defenseman Omar Sinclair. There will be eight other returners for Saginaw Valley in 2017 that will provide depth for the team.
SVSU opens the season on the road at Quincy and against Truman State at Quincy on September 1 and 3. The Cards open the 2017 home slate the weekend of September 8 against Alderson Broaddus and Ohio Valley. GLIAC competition begins on September 15, when SV heads to take on Northern Michigan.
