SVSU SAAC Boosts Support Through Face Painting

SVSU SAAC Boosts Support Through Face Painting

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted free face painting for the children in attendance at last weekend’s home basketball contests against Northwood University (Feb. 2).  Kids coming into the game as well as those having attended the Community Youth Day event had the opportunity to interact and have their face painted by student-athlete volunteers from each of SVSU’s 17 varsity athletics programs.

“The kids had a really great time with it, as did all of us who were doing the painting.  It’s always enjoyable to have the opportunity to interact with young people in the community.” said sophomore softball student-athlete Haley Niedzwiecki (Freeland, Mich.).

Junior track & field student-athlete Lee Chiatalas (Fenton, Mich. / Linden HS) added, “It’s a bonus for us whenever we’re able to do something that can bring some added fun and excitement to a child’s experience at an SVSU athletics contest.  I’m not sure who had more fun with the face painting, us, or the kids!”

SAAC is a group comprised of student-athletes from each of SVSU’s 17 athletics programs who look to promote unity and support among SVSU’s faculty, staff, students and surrounding community.

SAAC will again offer free face painting in conjunction with the Saturday, February 16th men’s and women’s basketball contests against Michigan Tech.  Games will start at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. respectively.  Prior to the games, a free tennis and golf clinic will be held for area youth beginning at 11:30 a.m. as part of the SVSU Community Youth Days.
