Taylor Stepanski (Alpena, Mich. / Alpena HS), a true freshman who has turned the heads of the competition at every meet she competes in, gave the Lady Cardinals a boost with a first place finish in the 800 meter with a NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 2:10.27 at the 2013 GLIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, currently putting herself in 11th place on the national list for DII.

Stepanski's time was .41 seconds shy of the SVSU school record set by Rose Willis in 2003.

In a ceremony held after the completion of events, SVSU freshman sensation Taylor Stepanski was named GLIAC Freshman Runner of the Year after an impressive first-year showing.

Stepanski was a vital part of the SVSU women's cross country team who finished 12th at nationals back in the fall and is high up on the list of of many indoor and outdoor records.
